Overview:
Chehalem (Chuh-HAY-lum) is an American Indian word meaning “gentle land” or “valley of flowers,” phrases that capture a reverence for the land. We understand this reverence and are dedicated to reflecting as purely as possible what our vineyards produce.
Our philosophy does not follow market trends. We look for deftness and elegance in Pinot Noirs when black, extracted, and heavily wooded wines are the norm. We plant Riesling when others are pulling it out. Instead of conforming to fads, we choose a future that is exciting and beautiful—such as it must have been for the native Calapooia, overlooking the “valley of flowers.”
Visitors have two choices when it comes to tasting our wines. At the winery, you may schedule an in-depth tasting appointment. Each appointment lasts about an hour and covers winery history, growing practices, and includes tasting some of our reserve wines. We also hold public tastings at our downtown Newberg Tasting Room, where you may choose between our core and reserve flights. No appointment is needed to visit the tasting room. We hope to see you soon!
